Windows 10 stuck in preparing installation - Microsoft Community.
For this, I prepared a Windows 10 flash drive, booted from it in EFI mode, and started the setup in advanced mode. I deleted all existing partitions and expect the setup to install Windows in the unpartitioned area. However, the installation step "Preparing files for installation At the same time, the status LED of the flash drive stops flashing and apparently nothing is happening after that. This is the case also after a couple of hours.
I also tried different flash drives at different USB ports. There are no more external devices connected to the laptop other than the flash drive. The Laptop is an Acer Aspire S7 The failed updates looked somewhat similar. After a while, the update got stuck, forcing me to restart the PC which -- after several attempts to solve the problem -- probably crashed the system. Same problem here also on an Acer Aspire S7 Partitioned the hard drive, all no luck. I think I might have found a solution.
I switched the bios to legacy. After start-up went into the RAID tool. Reset the RAID drives. So it seems that you have two drives. Switched the bios back to eufi settings. Then the install worked. It looks like to RAID array was broken due to the failed update. This is amazing. Your tip really helped and I could finally install Windows. Thanks a lot. Quite weird error, though. I too had been at wits end for several weeks trying to get my Acer updated and was at the point of tossing it That has helped me as well.
Absolutely the same situation; Acer Aspire S7 and some failed update more than half a year ago where I've just shut down the laptop after it was in the "don't shut me down" for several hours. I was hitting my head against the wall having tried everything I could think of with no luck.
Your solution worked! I never log into forums like this but this fix worked for me and I am so incredibly grateful!
Been having issues with my laptop for months. Thank you Roland! You saved my computer! Then I'd check each device driver to be sure it's current and implement any recommended mitigations.

Hi, since the update failed on my laptop and I was not able to recover a running system, I decided to perform a clean install of Windows Does anyone know similar cases or has an idea how to resolve the install issue? Nico P. Friday, June 15, PM. Might work for you too. Hi Roland, This is amazing. Hi Roland, Just want to echo Nico's thanks for your tip. After rebuilding the raid array per your post all is good.
Bill ps Wednesday, July 18, PM. I have done this to Acer Aspire S7 my self and it works. You can download intel rapid storage zip from their official website, then extracted on to the USB.
For windows installation, when you comes to the steps of chose your hard disk or setup you partition, just make sure you chose load driver before installing anything, then chose the USB which contains intel rapid storage driver you extracted, then computer will automatically find the compatible driver for the SSD and then continue your windows installation. Hope this will help you!

Monday, February 10, PM. This did the trick for me Scott after months of hassles with windows freezing.
